Small Business Minister, Nigel Griffiths has launched a new fund to provide finance for start-up and fast-growth businesses in East Anglia.
The GEIF Ventures Fund will provide investments in early-stage businesses. Investment will typically be between £50,000 and £100,000, matching the investment made by business angels.
Through co-investment with business angels the fund will help to bridge the difficulties faced by young companies that want to attract small-scale private finance. Such companies find that private investors want to invest millions in bigger companies rather than thousands of pounds in smaller ones.
The £2.5 million fund is sponsored by the DTI's Small Business Service and will operate alongside the Great Eastern Investment Forum, one of the country's foremost business angel networks.
