WEB TESTING SURVEYING AND WEB SITE TRACKING

Web testing, online survey, website tracking, email tracking and affiliate tracking is the easiest and cheapest way to learn about your target market. Each is a fantastic way to gather much critical marketing information about the people who are buying your products! They'll teach you exactly what your strengths and weaknesses are, giving your marketing strategies extra punch as you begin to apply what you learn.

Web testing, surveying and tracking allows you to get a clear picture of exactly who your target market is .. critical information that you need to know before your business will flourish. If you don't know who your target market is, who are you selling to? Everyone? Not everyone wants your product! Get focused and you will see a dramatic increase in your sales.

Once you know who your target audience is and how they're moving through your web site, you can begin to write your sales copy with a direct focus on their wants and needs, and you can focus your advertising campaigns in areas that you know they'll be. You are far better off targeting a well-defined niche market and dominating it.. focusing on those sales that come easily.. than trying to sell your product to everyone and their dog.

Plus, testing, surveying and tracking can shed tremendous amount of light on the aspects of your marketing strategy that just aren't working! Perhaps your selling price is too high or too low, maybe your sales copy is confusing, maybe your ordering system is too complicated.

Whatever the problems are, by studying the actions of your visitors and customers.. and taking time to actually listen to them.. you'll discover what you're doing right and what you're doing wrong!

WEB TESTING

The operative word in online marketing is test, test, test, test, and keep testing!

The purpose of testing is to increase the response to your ad or offer. The results of testing enables you to choose the best outcome that leads to increase sales. You should test one thing at any one time...

  1. Test your headline. This is your title or opening sentence. Your headline will have a huge impact on the response you receive; it's what initially captures the readers attention and compels them to read your ad and sales copy. So spend a lot of time working on it! If you don't get their attention with the headline, the game is over and you've lost.
  2. Test your offer. Your offer is different than your price. It's the total package that you are selling. It includes your main item plus any incentive items you have included. Try changing your offer. Try emphasising different benefits. Try using different motivating words and phrases. Try including a couple of bonuses.

  3. Test you price. A price that is too high is just as bad as a price that is too low! It has been proven that a price that is too low can devalue your product or service. Potential customers may think, "If it's that cheap, there must be something wrong with it"

Test your prices, starting at what you would consider "too high" and slowly go down. (To do this, it's important that you know your "cost per sale" and your "break even" prices).

  4. Test the body copy. Try adding some testimonials or experiment with a photo or two. Try redoing your opening page.. and your closing page. Are you using a P.S.? You should. Are you really stressing benefits and features? Use bullets! Test long paragraphs versus short paragraphs. Try running one long sales letter.. and try breaking the copy up into several pages.

  5. Test where your ad/banner ad is being run. It's easy to test a classified ad that you place in a newsletter. It's a little more difficult to get consistent results from banner ads that are displayed on a variety of sites, especially if you cannot choose the sites.

  6. Test you site layout. A good site statistic program will tell you where people are entering your site and where they are exiting it. If they are consistently exiting a certain page (before ordering), then changes need to be made.

  7. Test your ordering process. Again a good site statistic program will tell you if there are potential problems with your ordering process.

ONLINE SURVEY

To succeed with your online business, you need to know exactly what your customers really want. When you know what people want, you can easily sell your products to them by (1) focusing on how your product meets their needs and (2) emphasising the benefits that are most important to them!

The internet is a great place to test your advertising, test your headlines, test your offer and to test your pricing. Instead of waiting for months for response, you can literally get results within hours!

Conducting a survey is very simple. You can put together a short e-mail survey and start sending it out in small batches. As you begin to receive some responses, you may want to change or refine the questions you are asking. If you are not getting any responses, try giving something away to those people who are willing to take the time to talk to you and answer your questions.

If you have an existing business, get on the phone and talk to your best customers. You will get a different level of information from a phone conversation than you will with an e-mail. Ask for a totally honest opinion.

If you were to ask one hundred people the same question you'll get one hundred different answers; however, some of the answers will start to reveal a trend. Soon you'll have an accurate picture of the situation/problem!

A survey may sound like hard work, however it can pay off in the end! The results may convince you that your idea was a "total no hoper", or provide valuable information to enable you to restructure your offer and make it more appealing.

Make online surveys an ongoing part of your business

You can ask your customers for their help at anytime. Better still, by doing this you could save yourself a lot of time and expense. Every time you speak with a customer, ask them what else they would like, ask them what else they need, ask them what their next problem is! Then figure out a way to meet their needs and solve their problems.

WEB SITE TRACKING

Now that you know what to test, it's time to talk about how exactly you go about accurately tracking your results. It may sound difficult but you'll be surprise how easy it is!

There is a way to track almost all your sales and promotions including...

  • Banners
  • Classified Ads
  • Text Links
  • Sales Copy
  • E-mail promotions

..and know which ads and copy generate the most sales. Plus, you can also track...

  • which ads work best on which sites
  • Which ads work best on certain spots or pages
  • Where your advertising is making you the most profits

Here's a quick insight into how it works.

BulletStep 1: Choose what you want to test.
It's very important when testing different ads and sales copy, or tracking the sales that you get from different sites, that you only test one thing at a time.

If you're testing different banner ads, test links, or classified ads, all of your ads should send people to the same sales copy. If you're testing different sales copy, you should use the same ad to direct people to different sales copy. If you're testing different e-mail "teaser letters," each teaser letter should send people to the same long sales copy at your web site.

BulletStep 2: Assign each ad a different URL.
Once you've decided what you want to test, assign each ad a different URL or a different e-mail address (depending on what you are testing).

For example, if you want to test different classified ads to see which one generates the most sales, you could write three different ads that include three different URLs. Each URL would be a "mirror entry" page to your web site ... so the different URLs would essentially bring visitors to the same page.
